Behind my lines

Drawing has always been a big part of my life

Patience and level of detail in particular fascinate me and it is often the thought of the final result that motivates me in my process – to work on the smallest details along the way and then step back and consider the whole. I also work as an independent songwriter & producer and my everyday life is filled with melodies, words and sounds that continuously circulate in my head. When I draw, I can put those thoughts in the background and in that way make room for a break and an inner peace. A calm that gets reflected in my drawings – often of cabins and houses surrounded by wild nature.

Through my work I remove my focus from our modern society and imagine myself living in the most remote corners of the world where a simple and timeless existence can be led. This imagination is for me an interesting look into an alternative reality. I don't know whether that reality is better and I will most likely never find the answer but I think there is something both beautiful and lonesome about it. The feeling of solitude is something that has always followed me. A feeling that I grew up with and need to have sometimes while not letting it fill up too much. I think we all need the space that solitude can give us in small amounts. And that space is what I try to give with my drawings.

All my works are made with a simple pen. A thin black 0.05 fineliner pen which I started using in 2013. I don't use magnifying glass, rulers or pencil templates. By contrast, I plan how I want my illustration to appear and balance before I draw the first stroke. In this way I try to create something planned and graphic but at the same time intuitive and alive, where minor changes and coincidences occur.
